Saying goodbye to my eldest daughter this week was tough.
She’s moved to London to begin the next chapter of her life with her partner and while I couldn’t be prouder, it hit me harder than I expected.
Not long after, I had a coaching session with a client who’s in the middle of a great scale-up. The numbers are all pointing up — sales, profit, and cash — thanks to the Scaling Up methodology and a team that’s fully aligned.
But then the conversation shifted. With a young family of his own, I asked a different kind of question — not about financial KPIs, but about time.
Time with his kids. Time before they grow up and leave, just like mine just did. And then it clicked.
He has that time right now. The business is performing. The team is strong.
We crafted a strategy that includes carving out the space for the moments that matter most.
So here’s the question I will leave with you:
Is your business giving you the final KPI — time for your family, or the interests you’ve put on hold?
Because in the end, what’s the point of scaling, if not for a richer life outside the business?
