Scaling Up | September – October 2026
A simple way to focus on what really matters and build a stronger, more valuable business.
There’s a lot to think about when you’re running a business. Customers. People. Sales. Margins. Systems. Opportunities. And usually a few things you weren’t expecting when you walked in that morning.
It can get noisy. Over the years, one of the most helpful things I’ve found is that Scaling Up gives us a simple way to bring the conversation back to what really matters.
The four decisions in Scaling Up are People, Strategy, Execution and Cash. They’re not four separate conversations. They all connect. And when you get them right, you create a stronger, more valuable business.
Let’s look at each one.
Clarity turns effort into progress.
The four decisions work together to create a stronger, more valuable business.
It’s not just about hiring great people. It’s about making sure they’re in the right roles, with the right accountability, and that you have the right leadership team in place. When you have the right people in the right seats, everything becomes easier and the business can grow.
Strategy gives you direction. It’s about knowing who your ideal customer is, what you stand for and where you’re trying to get to. A good strategy creates clarity, helps you make better decisions and ensures everyone is pulling in the same direction.
This is where the rubber hits the road. Execution is about turning your strategy into action. It means setting priorities, having a simple and effective meeting rhythm, and creating accountability so things actually get done. Good execution removes complexity and helps you make steady progress.
Cash is the fuel that keeps the business moving. It’s about more than profit. It’s about managing working capital, understanding the drivers of cash, and making sure you have the financial strength to invest in people, opportunities and growth. When you get cash right, you create options and increase the value of your business.
The four decisions aren’t four separate boxes. They’re connected. Change the strategy and you may need different people. If your people aren’t clear, execution suffers. Poor execution eventually shows up in the financials. And without enough cash, you may not have the freedom to pursue the opportunities that create long term value.
So yes, the four decisions in Scaling Up are People, Strategy, Execution and Cash. But the real magic happens when they work together. Focus on these, and you’ll build a stronger, more valuable business.
