A simple look at what a Scaling Up business coach actually does and how the framework helps businesses grow.
When I tell people I’m a Scaling Up coach, the usual response is, “So, what exactly do you do?” It’s a fair question. The term isn’t well known outside the business world, and it can sound a bit vague.
So I thought I’d take a moment to explain it in simple, practical terms and share why it matters.
I work with business owners and leadership teams to help them build stronger, more valuable and more enjoyable businesses using the Scaling Up framework. It’s a proven system, developed by Verne Harnish, that has been used by thousands of growth minded companies around the world.
My role is part coach, part facilitator, part sounding board and part accountability partner. I bring structure, tools and an outside perspective to help you and your team make better decisions and turn strategy into action.
At the core of Scaling Up are four key decisions. I help leadership teams get crystal clear on each of these and make sure they’re working together.
It’s not just about hiring great people. It’s about making sure they’re in the right roles, with the right accountability, and that you have the right leadership team in place. When you have the right people in the right seats, everything becomes easier and the business can grow.
Strategy gives you direction. It’s about knowing who your ideal customer is, what you stand for and where you’re trying to get to. A good strategy creates clarity, helps you make better decisions and ensures everyone is pulling in the same direction.
This is where the rubber hits the road. Execution is about turning your strategy into action. It means setting priorities, having a simple and effective meeting rhythm, and creating accountability so things actually get done. Good execution removes complexity and helps you make steady progress.
Cash is the fuel that keeps the business moving. It’s about more than profit. It’s about managing working capital, understanding the drivers of cash, and making sure you have the financial strength to invest in people, opportunities and growth. When you get cash right, you create options and increase the value of your business.
I’m not a consultant who writes a report and leaves. I’m in the trenches with you, asking the tough questions, challenging your thinking and helping your team get aligned, focused and accountable. Together, we create the conditions for scalable growth and a healthier, happier leadership team along the way.
At the end of the day, great businesses don’t scale by accident. With the right people, a clear strategy, consistent execution and strong cash, you can build a business that lasts and gives you more freedom, more impact and a brighter tomorrow.
